Finally, an ambient light sensor and an infrared LED near the camera itself work together to support a night vision mode. Withings has continued to improve the Home with software updates since the launch, and several recent additions such as an app for the new Apple TV and a Baby Monitor mode have made the user experience even better. The Home's 5-megapixel camera streams 1080p video, but I found its image quality to be a bit too soft. It lacks the sharpness that I saw with other HD cameras like the Piper nv and the Compro TN900R . Both live and recorded daytime video was a bit too dark as well, even though the lighting environment was fairly bright. And the camera's black-and-white night vision was soft, but the infrared LEDs did a good job of supplying adequate light. Taking an ECG reading at the right time is far more useful than randomly performing these measurements.
An alert will appear if the air quality of the room your Home is situated in goes above a certain Parts Per Minute , which will happen when you cook or clean for example. If you look closely, you'll notice a couple of small microphone holes on either side of the Home between the white base - which also acts as a multi-coloured night light - that enable the Home to detect noise. For sound output, there's a 2W speaker to the top which sits flush with the wood finish and, slightly below it, there is a Volatile Organic Compound sensor for detecting the air quality.
